Erica Adamson
My background is in hospitality, floral design, agriculture and childcare with a decade of experience in all fields. I love nurturing the earth and the people around me and sharing the beauty in flowers.
For the past 6 years I have worked freelance:
Organizing my own flower pop-ups, workshops, fundraisers, intimate weddings, dinner parties, and collaborations with other local creatives. Along with three seasons working as a farmhand/florist on a local urban flower farm and growing my own cut flowers.
Since 2021 I have been working from my
home garden studio located in North Braddock, PA.
The garden surrounding my studio and home is full of established native perennials and fruit trees, planted by the homeowner. My husband and I are leasing this property and look after it with care by using organic growing practices. Every year eagerly adding more annual specialty cut flower varieties, and tucking in a few spring perennial bulbs each fall. We like to think of it as half country living, because it's such a lush and peaceful place so close to the city. Our cats Hex and Thistle seem to think so too! Braddock is a historic industrial steel mill town, just East of Pittsburgh. Covered in rust and abandoned buildings. Upon closer look you will find moss, overgrown roadside goldenrod, ditch daisies and vibrant dames rocket growing wild. I look for the hidden beauty in these old forgotten places. These rust belt landscapes are what inspired the name Rust + Moss.
I find myself drawn to the ethereal and native wispy weeds. Forever a student inspired by natures ephemeral bounty, sensual experiences, and the ebb and flow of the seasons. I tend to have a naturalistic approach to design, I guess you can say Mother Nature brings out the true romantic in me. Color, texture, and the fleeting movement of the seasons fuel my passion. I hunt for unique, specialty garden flowers and the overlooked treasures in the Pittsburgh landscape, always with sustainability in mind. I aspire to interact with the world around me by using a sustainable creative approach to my work. I reach for materials that are seasonal, reusable, and sourced from my garden or local farmers as much as possible and by composting leftover materials myself. When local flowers are scarce in the winter months I turn to dried flowers and do my best to find domestic alternatives.

I shy away from large weddings and events and adore small intimate settings when working with clients. I find that I enjoy my work best when having creator-driven freedom, and when my clients trust my process and when it feels collaborative esthetically. I prefer this volume of work because I don't like loosing sight of the joy flowers bring to life and sometimes that focus gets lost in this industry.

I want to create moments with flowers and people that are memorable and impactful by using simplicity and vibrancy. I want to give back to the community and the earth along the way. I want to make heartfelt arrangements with my hands that uplift spirits and spaces. I want to teach and foster people who yearn to learn the enchantments of flowers. I want this to be the path of
Rust & Moss. I look forward to working with you if this philosophy resonates with you.
I am always happy to discuss a vision with a client so don't hesitate to reach out with questions and inquires!
